A Mental Health Support/ Crisis Intervention Counselor is a state Licensed Mental Health Professional who works for the school system to help students in distress. The Mental Health Support/Crisis Counselor work closely with students, school guidance counselors, social workers, administrative staff, teaching staff, and community counseling agencies to support students in addressing their mental health needs.
The focus of the Mental Health Support/Crisis Counselor is to provide prevention and early intervention services to students within White County. This may include limited direct mental health services to students with identified needs and behaviors through referrals through the school guidance counselor, teachers, administration, and other staff. The Mental Health Support/Crisis Counselor provides information to staff and students to assist in developing prosocial skills to address mental health needs and decrease stigma, and behaviors that interfere with academic performance, developmental progress, and social/relational issues.
A Mental Health Support/Crisis Counselor counsels students in danger of harming themselves or others; supports students undergoing acute crises; and helps students and their families cope with other distressing mental health issues, such as grief, depression, and anxiety.
