White County School System is proud to be recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as a Certified Teacher Induction Program. Teacher induction programs play an essential role in supporting educators during their first years in the classroom by providing guidance, professional learning, and individualized support. These programs are designed to strengthen teacher effectiveness, improve retention, and positively impact student learning.
Induction Teachers
Teachers who hold an Induction Certificate and are entering their first year of teaching will participate in the White County Teacher Induction Program. Additional information will be provided by the Human Resources Department during the summer prior to the start of the school year.
Participants in the program can expect:
- Ongoing support throughout the three-year induction phase
- Face-to-face meetings and professional learning opportunities with other induction teachers
- Building-level support from trained staff members who specialize in mentoring and supporting new teachers
- Opportunities to observe experienced teachers and instructional practices
- Guidance related to classroom management, instruction, assessment, and professional responsibilities
- Access to resources and support designed to promote success during the early years of teaching
Mentor Teachers
Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, mentor teachers will support induction teachers throughout the full three-year induction phase. While core mentor responsibilities will remain consistent, support will be differentiated based on each teacher’s phase of induction and individual professional growth needs. Mentors play a vital role in helping new teachers navigate school culture, routines, schedules, and expectations while providing ongoing guidance through regular meetings, classroom observations, and collaborative support. In addition, mentors participate in required training sessions and meetings and maintain all required program documentation.
White County recognizes that circumstances may arise that require adjustments to mentor assignments during the three-year period and changes may be made when appropriate.
Applications to serve as a mentor teacher will be distributed by the Human Resources Department during the final week of the school year. Selected mentors will be notified by June 25, 2026. All mentors selected for the 2026–2027 school year will begin by supporting a Year 1 induction teacher.
