  SHINNING STARS IN EDUCATION

                 

We are proud and happy for DeNova Crow, a teacher at Mt. Yonah.  Mrs. DeNova Crow was named Mt. Yonah ’s Teacher of the Year for 04-05.   Mrs. Crow is our Special Education Lead Teacher and is well deserving of this high honor.  Her bubbly personality, love for children, and dedication is an example for all to follow.

 Congratulations to Sandy Walden a teacher at the Ninth Grade Academy who was also named Teacher of the Year for 04-05 for the Ninth Grade Academy.   Sandy is the Lead teacher of the Special Education Department at the Ninth Grade Academy.  Mrs. Walden’s dedication, understanding of student needs, and desire to see all students succeed is evident in all that she does.  Congratulations and we are proud of you!    

The Philip Wright Award was given to Mrs. Nancy Cruce on March 4, 2005 for her dedication and outstanding service for individuals with disabilities.  Mrs. Cruce is a general education teacher at Jack P. Nix Primary and the first general education teacher to receive this prestigious honor.  Nancy accepts and loves each individual student.  She has realistic expectations for each child and nurtures their strengths and understands their weaknesses.  When problems occur, she deals with them fairly and offers each child a brand new start.  Mrs. Cruce’s patience, love, and understanding in the classroom are a model for all of us to follow.  She is a dedicated advocate.  Nancy, we are proud of you and all you do for our children at Jack P. Nix.

 Two certificates were given to Mr. Randall Jarrard by the Georgia Department of Education recognizing the White County School System for its exemplary work with exceptional students.  White County School System was recognized as one of the highest performing systems in the state in the following area: Reducing the gap in achievement between students with disabilities and their general education peers.  White County School System also received a certificate for most improved in the area of Increasing the number of students who graduate with a regular education diploma.

Thank you, Mr. Jarrard, for your leadership and dedication to advancing education for students with disabilities.

Our Preschool Readiness Education PREP Program (PREP) staff had a booth at the Health Fair on March12.  These dedicated individuals, Kristi Autry, Susan Cheatham, Merri Huggins, Jane Grillo, and Cam Christopher went the extra mile to inform others about how to get help and services for our children in White County.  We appreciate each one of you giving of your time.  A very special thank you to Jane Grillo who is a parent and advocator in helping get the word out about the PREP program.  If you need more information about the program go to the website Program Information.
