School Nutrition Department

The White County School Nutrition Program is pleased to provide nutritious meals for all students and staff in our schools. Students are offered choices daily to encourage participation in our program. Parents and the community are welcome to join us for meals in our cafeterias by calling in advance to the school lunchroom managers to make reservations.

The School Nutrition Program also functions as a participant in the education of students by providing resources to the teachers in the area of nutrition, manners, and personal hygiene.

Research has shown that children who suffer from under nutrition perform poorly on perceptual, cognitive, and psychological test. Poor nutrition increases absenteeism. Children who consume diets inadequate in protein are less able to learn, have lower intelligence quotients, and poorer language development The research also indicates that breakfast of high content results in improved student attention spans. It is our purpose to provide one-third (1/3) of the students' daily nutritional needs with each breakfast served and one-third (1/3) of the students' daily nutritional needs with each lunch served. A hungry child cannot learn.
